19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player secured his initial title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with former coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early-game chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
